Michael Cimino is an American director, screenwriter, producer and writer. He rose to fame as the director of The Deer Hunter, which won an Oscar for Best Picture and won him the Best Director Award. Born in New York City, he received a BA in Graphic Arts from Michigan State University in 1959 and a BFA and MFA from Yale University in 1961 and 1963.
