How tall was Charlton Heston

American actor, best remembered for starring in movies like Planet of the Apes, Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, El Cid, The Big Country, Soylent Green, Antony and Cleopatra, The Three Musketeers, Earthquake and Touch of Evil. I read in an edition of the 1983 Philly Inquirer Heston saying: "I'm 6 feet 3" although earlier in his career, in a December 23rd 1956 Chicago Times it mentioned, "Charlton Heston is six feet two, looks taller because he says, 'Most five-foot-ten actors say they're six-foot-two. I really am.'"

It's wonderful working with Charlton [Heston]. I'm five feet 9 ½ inches in high heels and still look up to him. Every girl, you know, likes to feel she is tiny.

Every actor must deal with his physical equipment. I am 6 feet 3 inches, weigh 200 pounds and have this broken nose that caused me to be cast as Andrew Jackson, Michelangelo and Moses.

There was a British journalist who noted the disparity between my six feet three and Michelangelo's five feet eight. "Don't you feel you're a bit large for the part?" he asked sardonically.
   "No," I said, "I think I'm a bit small."
The whole business of performers' heights is widely misunderstood by the public. The film frame is an oblong; everything and everybody photographed within it are composed in attractive balance by the cameraman and director.

My shirts always come from Douglas Hayward when I am in London. I have them specially made because I can't find shirts to fit. I'm 6ft 4in, about 204lb and have a 45in chest.
