Theodor Seuss Geisel is an American children's author, political animator, illustrator, poet, animator, and filmmaker. He is known to have written and illustrated over 60 books under the pseudonym Dr Seuss. His work includes the most popular children's books of all time, sold over 600 million copies and translated into more than 20 languages at the time of his death. Geisel took the name "Dr. Seuss" as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College and a graduate student at Lincoln College, Oxford. He left Oxford in 1927 to begin his career as an illustrator and designer for Vanity Fair, Life and many other publications. He has also been an illustrator for advertising campaigns, notably for FLIT and Standard Oil, and as a political cartoonist for the New York PM newspaper. He published his first children's book and think I saw him on Mulberry Street in 1937 .

He had an affair with Audrey Stone Dimond, who became his second wife after Children's Author Helen Palmer Geisel committed suicide in 1967.
